Dark Alley Defence prides itself in using only the most qualified and experienced instructors. We want people who train with us to get the most out of the experience and learn all they can in the simplest ways possible and in the shortest amount of time possible. This is not an ancient world of honor and sword play nor is it one of sport competition; the world has become harsher and more violent than ever before. People face at least 3 violent situations in their lives, where they must endure and survive. Dark Alley Defence merely wants to teach people the tools to ensure their survival in any situation they may face.
Head Instructor
Hays McGee
Born Michael Hays McGee, in Fresno California, where he started his journey into martial arts and self defense at the age of 4. He began this journey in the Okinawan discipline of Shotokan Karate, and he continued there until the age of 13. Since then he has studied in the arts of Kyushojutsu (Pressure Point strikes), Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu (Ninjutsu), Muay Thai Kickboxing, Boxing, Krav Maga, Long-fist Kung Fu, Jun Fan Jeet Kun Do, Keysi Fighting Method, Iwama Ryu Aikido, Eishin Ryu Kenjutsu, Brazilian Jujutsu, Eskrima, and Kempo Karate. He is constantly expanding his knowledge of techniques and skills used in other martial arts and self defense schools. Using over 22 years of martial arts and self defense experience, he has weeded out the useless “green moves” and formulated a solid method of defense, that is easy to understand and can be used by anyone regardless of age or gender.
The term “green moves”; meaning the moves and techniques you’d learn at a regular school as you advance in order to keep you coming and paying them money. The American dollar is green, so hence the term “green moves”.
Hays grew tired of seeing people spend years and years of time and money perfecting an “art” that, once they are put into a real life confrontation they wind up just as helpless as someone without the training or worse, facing the situation with a total false sense of security and getting themselves hurt, injured, or worse; dead. Hays thought to himself, “If a technique is overly complex and not easy to learn and master relatively quickly it should not be learned at all.”
Bruce Lee once stated that, “My movements are simple, direct and non-classical. The extraordinary part of it lies in its simplicity.”
Hays has instructed dozens of people in self defense and self preservation on the concept that the true way is the simplest way to take. He believes that challenging your self is good in practice, and in the gym or other tasks you may find yourself at. But in the methods of self defense, keeping it simple, is keeping you alive. Hays has also studied the methods most criminals use to attack and accomplish what ever goal they may have. He has also read dozens of books and seen over hundreds of documentaries and seminars on criminal methodology, rape prevention, and self defense. He has also studied in depth the human anatomy and to what degree the human limit can be pushed in times of great stress. Hays also has experience in survival and tracking techniques as taught to the American Army Rangers.
